Background

In hardware platforms designed for mobile machinery and industrial tablet use, the adoption of the Android operating system has increased significantly in recent years. Novatron’s machine control software platform is built on cross-platform principles, enabling it to operate on multiple operating systems. Currently, the platform runs on Linux and Windows.

We are now exploring the actions, technical decisions, and architectural considerations required to introduce Android support. As part of this broader investigation, we need to evaluate suitable mechanisms for distributing software and updates to devices already deployed in the field. This segment of the investigation will be offered as a thesis project.

Work description:

This project offers a comprehensive journey from exploring the use case and mapping out solution alternatives to practically implementing the selected method. During the work, you will gain valuable insight into machine control systems and the software and hardware solutions used in mobile machinery, as well as industrial-grade Android distributions. You will also collaborate closely with software development teams working on machine control applications and their associated cloud services.

A salary will be paid for the thesis work, and the specific working hours will be discussed and agreed upon as the application process progresses. The typical full-time salary level for thesis workers is around €2,500 per month and for part-time employment, compensation is based on the actual amount of work performed.

What do we expect from you?

We are looking for a student with a solid knowledge of software development for the Android platform and software distribution mechanisms. Knowledge of C++, Python, and JavaScript, as well as familiarity with Linux and AWS environments, will be considered an advantage.

The work involves extensive communication with Novatron’s specialists and external solution providers, making strong communication skills and a proactive working style highly valuable. Good communication skills of the English language—both spoken and written—is essential for achieving a successful outcome.
